At Least 2 Dead After Helicopter Crashes in New York (VIDEO)

The New York Police Department and Fire Department are responding to a helicopter crash near Manhattan, the city mayor's spokesman reported. The helicopter carried six people, according to officials.
The helicopter crashed into the East River. At least two people confirmed dead in the accident, according to the New York City mayor press secretary. A team of divers are still working in the water. Later, the New York Police reported that three people were hospitalized in critical condition. Soon after the first reports, a video of the crash appeared on social media.

Breaking News:Catholic priest shot, students beaten as herdsmen attack seminary

Two Catholic priests were beaten, one shot in the leg when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked a minor seminary in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

During the attack which was said to have taken place on Monday morning, some students were injured and many cars destroyed.

While the persons injured were said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, it was not yet clear if people were killed. The Director of Caritas Nigeria, an agency of the Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, revealed this in a WhatsApp message to our correspondent.

He said, “Please Frs, pray for us. Our minor seminary in Jalingo has just been attacked by the Fulani, some students are injured, some cars destroyed, two priests beaten and one shot on the leg. They are currently receiving treatment at FMC.”

Osinbajo May Lose His VP Position, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that he may appoint another Vice President should he win the 2019 presidential election, as Yemi Osinbajo’s ”position is [being] threatened.”

The president revealed this on Friday when he hosted a delegation of the Conference of Nigerian Female Parliamentarians at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Head of the delegation, Elizabeth Ative, appealed to the president to consider choosing a female running mate for next year’s election.

She also asked Buhari to make it compulsory for one out of three senators produced by each state to be a woman.

“Currently, many African and European nations are daily finding ways to include more women in governance,” Ative said.

“Some have elected or appointed women as heads of state, prime ministers, heads of foreign ministries and other key positions of decision making.

“It will not be out of place, Your Excellency, for women to be given such opportunities in our dear nation. Even God created them male and female.”

And Buhari, in what appeared to be a joke, said, “It is a pity the VP is not here, but I believe the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will brief him that his position is [being] threatened.

“It is only the Vice President who is threatened. And if we win the next election, he may lose his election,” Buhari added.

A fight between a man and young lady turned deadly as the man hit the lady with a hammer sending her crashing to the floor.
The incident reportedly happened in one of the hoods in Southeast Atlanta. In the shocking video, the man is seen arguing with the lady, who reports say is a teenager. The argument became really heated and the man raised a hammer and hit her on her head with it.
The impact threw the lady to the ground and, at this point, neighbours who were watching but didn’t interfere now made a move to restrain the man. One female in the group raised a chair and went after the man, saying, “I’m going to kill you.”
Following the violent attack, the girl was reportedly taken to the hospital with a cracked skull.

Omokri attacks Fr. Mbaka over herdsmen killings, Buhari’s stand on Abacha

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has lashed out at the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Rev. fr. Ejike Mbaka over his silence in the face of herdsmen killing and President Muhammadu Buhari’s praises of late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha.
Omokri wondered why Mbaka, a known supporter of Buhari, has gone silent despite the current negative happenings across the country.
He mockingly said Mbaka must be proud of negative things currently happening.
In a tweet, on Thursday, Omokri wrote: “Where is Rev Mbaka now that Buhari is hero worshipping Abacha. Mbaka, a Catholic Priest, remained silent as Benue buried 2 Catholic Priests and 17 parishioners killed by Buhari’s herdsmen kinsmen.
“This same Mbaka lied that Jonathan wanted to kill him! Is Mbaka proud of himself?
“It is a good thing Rev Mbaka’s ministry is called Adoration Ministry.
“He can join President Buhari in his adoration of Abacha. 2 days ago the entire Catholic Church collectively protested the killings of Christians nationwide. On that day, Rev Mbaka FORGOT that he was a Catholic!
“In 2015, Mbaka endorsed Buhari as the man God revealed to him He had chosen. Buhari replied, and I quote “Mbaka is a great priest who was not afraid to speak truth to power”.
“What happened to Mbaka since then? He keeps quiet as Christians and Muslims are slaughtered under Buhari.”
Buhari had on Tuesday said Abacha constructed roads and built hospitals while he was alive.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari had said, “I don’t care the opinion you have about Abacha but I agreed to work with him and we constructed roads from Abuja to Port Harcourt, Benin to Onitsha and so on. We also touched education and health institutions.”

Policeman Beats Up A Lady For Allegedly Refusing To Allow Him Search Her Bag (Photos+Video)

Some members of the Nigeria Police Force have been accused of s*xually harassing and assaulting a lady under the guise of security check.

Trending reports on social media have it that a policeman physically assaulted a young lady along the popular Warri/Sapele road, Delta State while attempting to carry out a stop and search operation.
In the course of the vicious stop and search operation, a policeman was seen brutalizing the lady with nobody to help. An internet user in the know shared the incident online with a plan to seek justice for the abused lady.

She finally poured the clothes on the floor and insisted that she cannot pour her pant on the floor, then he said the he was no longer looking at it again that we should wait and that she is too small and ugly to be talking to her, before we knew he started slapping her and even raised gun on her.. Russia Unveils World’s First Floating Nuclear Power Station

Russia on Saturday unveiled the world’s first floating nuclear power station at a ceremony in the port of the far northern city of Murmansk where it will be loaded with nuclear fuel before heading to eastern Siberia.

Built in Saint Petersburg, the Akademik Lomonosov arrived in Murmansk on Thursday where it was moored in the port and presented to the media on Saturday.

Constructed by the state nuclear power firm Rosatom, the 144 by 30 metre (472 by 98 foot) ship holds two reactors with two 35 megawatt nuclear reactors that are similar to those used to power icebreaker ships.

The 21,000-tonne barge will be towed in the summer of 2019 to the port of Pevek in the autonomous Chukotka region in Russia’s extreme northeast, 350 kilometres (217 miles) north of the Arctic Circle.

The barge can produce enough electricity to power a town of 200,000 residents, far more than the 5,000 live in Pevek, Russia’s northernmost town.

It will be primarily used to power oil rigs as Russia pushes further north into the Arctic to drill for oil and gas and needs electricity in far-flung locations.

Vitaly Trutnev, who is in charge of the construction and operation of floating nuclear power stations at Rosatom, said such units would “supply electricity and heat to the most remote regions, supporting also growth and sustainable development.”

He said the use of such floating reactors can save 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The barge had initially been scheduled to be fuelled in Saint Petersburg, but that work was moved to Murmansk instead due to concern in countries along the Baltic Sea.

Pope Francis spoke of the right time to 'take leave' of his flock during homily

He surprised analysts when he was elected to succeed Benedict XVI in 2013 at the age of 76, and just five years on, Pope Francis has admitted to pondering his retirement.

Francis spoke about when it might be the right time to 'take leave' of his flock during this morning's homily.

His comment came while reflecting on St. Paul discerning when to leave his flock in the care of others, a decision Francis said all bishops must make.  

He said: 'When I read this, I think about myself, because I'm a bishop and I'll have to take my leave.'

Francis has previously said that retired Pope Benedict XVI 'opened a door' to future popes by resigning. 

Although the 81-year-old pope has said he does not envisage a long papacy, he has not yet revealed when, or whether, he plans to retire.

Francis may have also been referring to Chilean bishops implicated in a sex abuse cover-up scandal.  

He is currently holding a series of closed-door meetings with the Bishops of Chile to formulate a response to the abuse crisis that has rocked the Church in that country. 

The discussions are being attended by 31 diocesan and auxiliary bishops and three emeritus bishops, and will continue until May 17.

The Vatican has not released the full text from his homily.

Indian exam women have sleeves cut to stop cheating

An Indian college has been banned from conducting examinations after it cut off the sleeves of women candidates for nursing tests to prevent cheating, officials said Monday.

Video shown on Indian TV showed staff at the school using scissors and razor blades to slash the women's sleeves before allowing them into the exam building on Sunday.

Many of the women can be seen carrying the ripped-off sleeves into the exam hall as dozens of police stand guard outside in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar state.

The act sparked protests outside other exam centres and a torrent of complaints on social media.

District education officer Lalan Prasad Singh said the sleeves were cut to protect the candidates but added that a probe has been launched to find who was responsible.

"The school has been barred from holding exams," he told reporters when confronted over the outcry.

The eastern state is notorious for exam trickery and reports of mass cheating regularly make headlines.

Nearly 1,000 students were expelled by the Bihar state government in February for cheating in school exams.

In February 2016 army candidates sat in their underwear to take a written exam during a recruitment day in Muzaffarpur.

Authorities have already barred students from wearing shoes in exams, to make it more difficult to smuggle in paper.

In the past hundreds of parents have been arrested for helping their offspring. Some used ladders to pass notes with answers to questions into exam halls.

In 2016 three top high school students were arrested after they failed on television to answer simple questions in a subject which they had already passed.

An investigation found they had paid bribes to cheat in the exams.

Other states also have a problem. One woman candidate for a medical college exam in Kerala claimed last year she was forced to take off her bra before entering an exam hall.
