Priest who slapped baby at baptism breaks his silence after clip goes viral

Priest who slapped baby for crying at baptism breaks silence as he's retired from services with apologetic Bishop claiming "great age played a part"
Father Jacques Lacroix, 89, said he just wanted the boy to 'calm down' during a ceremony in Champeaux, near Melun, in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris
A Catholic priest said he has been forced into retirement after hitting a two-year-old boy at his baptism.
Father Jacques Lacroix, 89, said: "I am finishing my ministry now...there is an end to everything."
He carried out the bizarre assault during a ceremony at the Collegiate Church in Champeaux, near Melun, in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris, last Sunday.
In a video of the incident which has gone viral , Father Jacques is seen shouting at the boy.
"Calm down, calm down, you must calm down," he says, adding "be quiet" before squeezing the boy’s face in his hands.
The priest then stares at the boy in the eyes and slaps him hard on the cheek with his left hand.
The aggressive act prompts an immediate reaction from the boy's horrified parents and other family members, who prise him out of Father Jacques's grip.
Denying that the assault was too severe, Father Jacques told France Info radio today: "It was somewhere between a caress and a slap, I hoped to calm him down, I didn’t know what to do.
"The child was screaming a lot and I had to turn his head to pour water over it.
"I told him to 'calm down, calm down' but he was not calming down. I tried to hold him close. I just wanted him to calm down.
"I apologised for my clumsiness to the family. I am finishing my ministry now, it was my last baptism, there is an end to everything."
Jean-Yves, the Bishop of Meaux, said he had "taken measures so that the priest is suspended from all baptism and marriage celebrations".
The Bishop said Father Jacques would only be allowed to celebrate mass in the future if this was cleared beforehand.
He said Father Jacques had been guilty of a "loss of coolness that can be explained but not excused".
the more regrettable because the baptism is meant to be a happy moment, but tiredness and great age clearly played a part."
The parents have accepted the priest's apology and were happy to see the boy baptised, the Bishop added.

Video Games that Killed people in real life (video)

How many times have you died playing games? From "Insert Coin" to "Game Over" to "it was only because of lag," we've all died more times than Sean Bean. In some games, this comes with dire consequences, like starting all over from scratch; in others, its just a blip on the way to inevitable victory. It might come at the bottom of a pool of lava, or at the hands of any of gaming's many, many enemy characters.

But marauding space aliens, corrupt government operatives, and laser-shooting skeletons aren't the true dangers that lurk within your favorite video games. No, what you really need to be worried about are blood clots, a lack of movement, and a vulnerability to game-induced psychosis. An observer might see you sitting immobile on a couch or in an internet cafe, but the reality of what your body and mind are going through is pretty intense, and there have been many unfortunate gamers who've paid a high health toll for their passion. Here are some heartbreaking stories to remind us that unlike video games, you can't just hit "continue" in real life.

Berzerk: Heart attacks

Berzerk is one of the earliest known examples of a video game ending in actual death. In April 1982, an 18-year-old named Peter Bukowski landed a couple of high scores on a Berzerk arcade cabinet before collapsing from a heart attack, due to a compromised cardiovascular system which was agitated beyond repair by the game. An October 1982 article in Video Games Magazinecites studies tying physiological reactions to video game stress that went back as far as 1977, using Pongas a stressor. Those Pong dudes would have instantly exploded playing Bayou Billy.

EverQuest: Suicide

EverQuest, affectionately called "EverCrack" or "NeverRest" by its many dedicated fans, is an MMORPG known for drawing in easily-addicted gamers, even catalyzing the formation of support groups for people whose relationships suffered from their partner's addiction to the game. Shawn Woolley took his EverQuest passion to the extreme in 2002, quitting his job to play full-time. After he ignored a Thanksgiving invitation from his family, his loved ones found Woolley dead in front of his computer from a self-inflicted shotgun wound — with EverQuest still running. Woolley took his own life for unknown reasons, but it's speculated that it may have been related to a troubled in-game relationship.

Legend of Mir 3: Murder over a drop

In yet another MMORPG incident with seriously messed-up real-life ramifications, Legend of Mir players Qiu Chengwei and Zhu Caoyuan jointly earned a very rare Dragon Sabre sword in-game, but Zhu decided to sell the sword on eBay in 2005 without Qiu's consent. Earning around $870 for the sale, the two players couldn't come to a reasonable agreement as to proper disbursal of payment for the sword, so Qiu later stabbed Zhu to death in his sleep. Qiu was sentenced to life in prison, but will be eligible for parole in 2020.

FarmVille: Murder

Yes, even FarmVille can turn evil in the wrong hands. Alexandra Tobias, a 22-year-old mother, was so addicted to the game that she shook her three-month-old son to death in 2011 because his crying interrupted her playing. Tobias, who received a 50-year prison sentence for her actions, at one point reportedly confessed to a fellow inmate that she hit her baby's head against the computer monitor in the process of trying to shake him into silence.

Nintendo Wii: Water intoxication

In 2007, the Nintendo Wii was still hard to get in the US, so the Sacramento-based radio station KDND decided to run a contest giving one of the consoles away. The challenge: drink an inordinate amount of water without urinating, with whoever leaked last winning the Wii. Unfortunately, it's possible to die from water intoxication, and Jennifer Strange, a participant in the event, collapsed and died once she returned home after failing to win the prize. The station fired ten employees and lost a $16 million lawsuit.

World of Warcraft: Child neglect, murder

Massively multiplayer online role-playing games, or MMORPGs for short, have a reputation for attracting people with addiction problems, some of whom have sacrificed real-life experiences and responsibilities in order to disappear into a fantasy world. The story of Rebecca Colleen Christie offers a worst-case scenario: she spent such an inordinate amount of time playing Warcraft that she allowed her three-year-old daughter to starve to death. Prosecutors found that Christie had just engaged in a nonstop 15-hour WoW session prior to finally calling 911 for her daughter, who was found unresponsive. She was subsequently sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime.

Ingress: Walking into traffic

A mobile app that requires you to get up and move around seems like a great idea—until that app sends you directly into traffic, as it did Gabriel Cavalcante Carneiro Leao. While playing Ingress in 2014, the 16-year-old Brazilian teen lost track of his surroundings while rushing to a "portal" in the game, and was subsequently hit and killed by an oncoming bus. While Ingress has built-in limits to prevent certain unsafe behaviors, like features becoming unavailable while moving at high speeds, there was nothing to stop an absorbed and enthusiastic kid from walking into a busy street. They also didn't help Frank Maxwell, a 48-year-old father who drowned near a pier in Ireland while playing the game in 2015.

DOTA, Diablo III, Halo, StarCraft, and WoW: Marathon gameplay deaths

If there's a lesson to be learned from life-ruining games, it's that you have to get up and move around sometimes, because the list of deaths from sitting on your butt and twiddling your thumbs just keeps growing. A 2015 report in the UK's Mirror details the death of a boy named Rustam (last name withheld) who played Defense of the Ancients(better known as DOTA) for 22 unrelenting days. In 2012, an 18-year-old named Chuang died in an Internet cafe in Taiwan after 40 continuous hours of Diablo III—the second marathon game-related death in Taiwan that year. In 2011, Chris Staniforth died in Englandfrom deep vein thrombosis after playing 12 hours of Halo. In 2005, Lee Seung Seop died in South Korea after 50 hours of StarCraft.

Moral of the story: don't take extended gameplay lightly. Even when you're in the thick of the action, remember that you need to get up for a few minutes every so often. Take a break, stand up, get some water, and move around every once in a while during your marathon gameplay sessions.

Slender: The Arrival: Stabbing and arson

Slender: The Arrival didn't exactly kill anyone, but an obsession with its main baddie influenced a few impressionable young girls to do some insidious things. In May 2014, two 12-year-old girls from Waukesha, Wisconsin stabbed their classmate 19 times, believing that they had to murder someone in order to appease the mythical villain(and antagonist of Slender: The Arrival as well as its low-budget predecessor, Slender: The Eight Pages).
Just as disturbing is the case of a 14-year-old girl who set her family's Port Richey, Florida home on fire with her mother and younger brother still inside. The girl was also obsessed with Slender Man lore, and reportedly started the fire in order to gain his favor.

A Blind Mystic 'Predicted 9/11' And That 'Russia Will Dominate The World

If you're a gambler, and more importantly if you can find a bookie that will take bets on the outcome of global wars, here's a tip for you.
A Bulgarian psychic known as Baba Vanga who is known as 'The Nostradamus of the Balkans' reportedly predicted that Russia - and more specifically Vladimir Putin - will go on to dominate the world.
She's got form too. She has allegedly predicted quite a good number of world events in recent times. She predicted Brexit, the rise of ISIS in the Middle East, the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, and now - the total world domination of the Russian Federation.
This is all pretty good going for an 85 year old blind woman. Oh, and she died in 1996 - which would make her predictions even more impressive. The bleak forecast was made to a writer called Valentin Sidorov in 1979, Vanga said: "All will thaw, as if ice, only one remain untouched - Vladimir's glory, glory of Russia.
"Too much it is brought in a victim. Nobody can stop Russia.
The bleak forecast was made to a writer called Valentin Sidorov in 1979, Vanga said: "All will thaw, as if ice, only one remain untouched - Vladimir's glory, glory of Russia.
"Too much it is brought in a victim. Nobody can stop Russia.

"All will be removed by her from the way and not only will be kept, but also becomes the lord of the world."
OK, so it's a little bit vague, but these things often are - it's still pretty creepy though, isn't it?
It comes at a time when tensions between Britain and Russia are running pretty high. Britain thinks Russia is responsible for the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with a Novichok nerve agent in Salisbury a few weeks back.
Prime Minister Theresa May has booted 23 Russian diplomats in response and - as you might expect - the Russians are not best pleased about that.
So, as we wait for the eventual nuclear apocalypse, let's take a look back at some of Baba Vanga's other greatest hits.
She was born as Vangelia Gushterova and then blinded after being picked up by a tornado when she was a kid, which reportedly gave her the supernatural powers that she has used to predict basically everything in store for us up until the death of the planet.
The good news is, we've got until about 3797, and we'll be advanced enough to get to another solar system by then.
In 1989, she said: "Horror, horror! The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will be gushing."
Sound familiar? No need to explain what that one is about then.
This one's a bit more difficult to interpret, but it allegedly forecasts the 2004 tsunami: "Cold regions will become warm ... and volcanoes will awaken.
"A huge wave will cover a big coast covered with people and towns, and everything will disappear beneath the water. Everything will melt, just like ice."
It's not all doom and gloom though, we catch a bit of a break between 2025 and 2028 with an end to global hunger, but then the ice caps melt.
So we've got that to look forward to at least.

World Cup 2018: Russia promises 'unprecedented' security

At a surveillance centre in Kaliningrad, monitoring teams are keeping a close eye on the city.
Sitting at their computers, staff are studying CCTV images from more than 700 security cameras. Another 1,200 cameras have been installed at Kaliningrad Stadium, where England play Belgium on 28 June.
With the latest face-recognition technology, individuals are checked automatically in a police database within seconds of being caught on camera. Similar security systems are in operation in the other World Cup host cities.
"In terms of anti-terrorism, this system will help locate suspicious individuals," says Sergei Evstigneev from the Kaliningrad regional government. "It will allow the police to monitor their movements and react to any situation."
But security cameras are just the first line of defence.
In Kaliningrad, local security forces have been training to react to a possible terrorist attack during the World Cup.
In one exercise, elite units - the "Spetsnaz" - parachuted into the football stadium to deal with a hostage scenario.
In a dramatic training video released by Russia's internal security service, the FSB, special forces armed with Kalashnikovs are shown battling to secure the venue.

Buhari has failed, says Donald Duke

Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja
Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime as a government of many failings which is disconnected from reality.
Duke, who has declared his intention to contest the Presidency, said the Buhari administration was not ready for leadership and that was why it took the President nearly six months to appoint ministers.
The presidential aspirant said this during an interview with DW Africa.
When asked why he thought he would be a better President than Buhari, he said, “Because I see such obvious failings. I see a leadership that is steeped in the past; that has refused to evolve with a nation that is predominantly a nation of young aspiring people and still doing things the way they were done many years ago and did not work.
“I think our leadership in the country today is totally out of tune with the current reality of our nation. There is disconnect somewhere so when you have a leadership that blames its young people for instance of not striving enough or of being lazy, there is a disconnect because the tools to make them achieve their aspiration have not been provided.”
Duke, who became governor at 37, said the standard of education had continued to worsen under the current administration.
He said the health sector was in crisis adding, “The President, himself, receives treatment abroad. That is a sad state of affairs.”
The former governor said the President had not excelled in the area of security and fighting corruption.
He said the Federal Government was concentrating on fighting persons perceived to be corrupt instead of building a system that could automatically prevent corruption.
When asked to state Buhari’s worst problem, he said, “They were not prepared for leadership. For example, it took six months to set up a cabinet. Where do you hear such? President Buhari came into office to fight corruption and insecurity.
“Let us look at the scorecard. Corruption is not dead. Prosecuting corruption is addressing the symptom and not the problem. The real problem is you have got to create jobs for people; you have got to strengthen institutions that make it almost impossible to engage in such an activity.”
Duke also faulted the government’s claim that Boko Haram had been defeated.
He said suicide bombings, kidnappings were still occurring mainly in the North-East.
“They have announced that the war is over and Bokom Haram has been defeated. We know it hasn’t been defeated. There are still bombings and kidnappings in the North-East. If you visit the IDPs, you will see that we are breeding the next generation of very disgruntled people,” the ex-governor said.
Duke, who was governor from 1999 to 2007, said Nigeria’s economy ought to be growing at 15 per cent per year for the next 10 years.
He said interests rates must be lowered to encourage entrepreneurship and job creation.
The presidential aspirant added, “You can’t grow your economy with the type of banking system we run where the interest rate is in the upper 20s. You need to have affordable credit which will enable small and medium scale businessmen to borrow and expand their businesses.
“Nigeria grew faster when we had regulation on interest rates; when the interest rates were in single digits. Secondly, we have to grow the economy at 15 per cent for 10 years to recalibrate the system.
“Nigeria ought to be a $2.5tn economy and not a $400bn economy.”http://punchng.com/buhari-has-failed-says-donald-duke/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
